Jardin d'Éden, Île de la Réunion

Jardin d'Éden is a tropical botanical garden housing about 700 plant species spread across nearly 3 hectares, including bamboos, aquatic plants, and extensive geranium collections. The space is organized into themed sections connected by pathways that guide visitors through the diverse plant displays.

The garden was established in the 18th century and ranks among the oldest botanical sites on Réunion Island. Its creation was connected to early scientific interest in the island's tropical plant life.

The garden contains areas dedicated to plants used in traditional medicine and species valued for producing natural dyes on the island. These sections reflect practical knowledge that has been passed down through generations of local inhabitants.

The garden is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, giving plenty of time to explore the different sections at a comfortable pace. The flat terrain is easy to walk through, though some shaded pathways can be damp underfoot.

A stream runs through the garden connecting different themed areas, with blue flowers and medicinal plants positioned along its course. This waterway creates a natural backbone that guides visitors throughout their visit.
