Perry Lakes Reserve, Protected area in Floreat, Australia.
Perry Lakes Reserve is an 80-hectare protected area with two lakes, East Lake and West Lake, covering about 12.6 hectares of water surface. The site has walking paths, picnic areas, sports courts, exercise equipment, and public facilities spread throughout.
The reserve was reshaped in 1962 during construction of Perry Lakes Stadium for the British Empire and Commonwealth Games. This sports venue marked a turning point in how the land developed as a public recreation space.
The land holds traditional importance to the Whadjuk Noongar people who camped and hunted here before European settlement. Visitors can sense these historical connections through how the landscape is shaped and used today.
The location is easy to explore with marked paths that circle the lakes and connect different areas. Parking is available, and picnic spots with public toilets are distributed throughout, making it accessible for families and casual visitors.
The site hosted Australian Scout Jamborees in 1979 and 1994, marked by a commemorative sculpture on the grounds. This connection to scouting events remains an overlooked part of the reserve's story for most visitors.
