Schmidt-Lademann House

The Schmidt-Lademann House is a modern residential structure in Floreat with sloping roof lines, granite walls, jarrah ceilings, and blackbutt parquetry floors across multiple living spaces. The building spans several levels with divided zones, including bedrooms, a study gallery, and living areas with views toward the surrounding reserves.

Architect Iwan Iwanoff designed this house in 1958 for Siegfried Schmidt-Lademann, who was serving as the German Consul in Perth at that time. A 2003 expansion changed the original L-shaped layout and created new connections between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The residence reflects design principles from European Modernism and the Bauhaus movement, influences the architect brought from his studies in Munich. These ideas shaped how the building looks and how its spaces are organized.

The house is located on Lifford Road in Floreat Park and offers views toward nearby green spaces and reserves. The split-level design with divided zones takes time to explore, as multiple areas are connected across different heights.

The building was fundamentally reshaped after its original creation, gaining entirely new functional areas through the addition of an indoor-outdoor dining zone. This transformation demonstrates how early modernist designs can be reinterpreted and adapted to changing living needs over time.
