Riverton Bridge, Timber footbridge over Canning River in Riverton, Western Australia
Riverton Bridge is a timber structure with concrete supports that spans the Canning River with a two-lane roadway. It includes a dedicated pedestrian walkway for safe crossing on both sides.
The original bridge from 1911 was built for market gardeners who needed to cross the river. The current structure was constructed in 1954 at a new location further upstream.
The crossing serves as a regular meeting point for local residents who use the river for swimming and recreation. People gather here to enjoy the riverside, especially during the warmer months.
The crossing is accessible by foot or vehicle during daylight hours and offers clear passages from both sides. Visitors should note that the riverbanks are particularly active in warm weather and offer good swimming conditions.
A section of the original bridge remained in the water as a diving platform for children until 1980. This informal recreation area was eventually removed due to safety concerns.
