Yanchep, Administrative division in Western Australia
Yanchep is an administrative division located about 56 kilometers north of Perth in Western Australia. It combines residential areas, nature reserves, and wetland zones within the City of Wanneroo jurisdiction.
The region developed rapidly in the 1970s when entrepreneur Alan Bond purchased about 8,100 hectares to establish Yanchep Sun City. The project aimed to create a planned community for approximately 200,000 residents.
The name comes from the Noongar language, where Yandjip refers to the bulrush plants that thrive in the local wetlands and swamps.
The area has schools, shopping facilities, and received improved train connections in 2024. Visitors will find good basic amenities and better transport links to the wider region.
A bushfire in December 2019 affected about 14,000 hectares, but emergency crews successfully protected around 6,000 homes from destruction. This highlights the effectiveness of local emergency response services.
