Fitzgerald River National Park, Nature reserve in Western Australia, Australia

Fitzgerald River National Park is a large nature reserve on the southern coast of Western Australia covering around 297,000 hectares. The landscape includes mountains, coastal plains, and various other landforms that together create a varied whole.

The area gained protection status as a national park in 1973, combining the former Fitzgerald River State Park with surrounding Crown land. This decision recognized the need to preserve this diverse region for future generations.

The Goreng, Menang, and Wudjari peoples have deep connections to this land, which holds sacred places and sites of major significance to them. Visitors can sense traces of their long presence while walking through the varied landscapes.

The park can be reached through two main access points: from Bremer Bay in the west and from Hopetoun in the east, both via sealed roads. It is wise to check conditions before visiting, as the area is remote and facilities may be limited.

The area is home to around 1,600 plant species, with 75 of them found nowhere else on Earth. This concentration of plants that exist nowhere else makes it a globally important location for botany and conservation.
