Olive Pink Botanic Garden, Desert botanical garden in Alice Springs, Australia.
Olive Pink Botanic Garden is a 16-hectare reserve containing over 500 plant species native to Central Australia, featuring figs, shrubs, and mulga trees throughout. Multiple walking trails connect different sections of the garden, each showing distinct plant communities adapted to desert conditions.
Anthropologist Olive Pink founded this garden in 1956 as the Australian Arid Regions Nature Reserve to protect desert plant species. Her work established one of the first conservation areas dedicated to preserving Central Australian flora.
The garden occupies Tharrarltneme, a place of spiritual importance to the Arrernte Aboriginal people. This connection shapes how visitors experience the landscape and the respect shown when walking through the grounds.
The garden opens daily from 8 AM to 6 PM and can be accessed via Tuncks Road at the northern end of Barrett Drive. Parking is available on site, making it easy to reach the entrance and begin exploring the walking trails.
Black-footed rock wallabies make their home in the rocky areas scattered throughout the grounds. Western bowerbirds construct their distinctive nests in various spots, which visitors can spot while walking the trails.
