Mojokerto

Mojokerto is an administrative city in East Java, located about 40 kilometers southwest of Surabaya at an elevation of 25 meters. The city spans 20 square kilometers and divides into three districts—Prajurit Kulon, Magersari, and Kranggan—each offering different services and residential areas.

The area developed as the center of the Wetan Mas Kingdom under King Airlangga's rule and later became part of the Majapahit Empire's territory. These early royal connections shaped the region and its cultural development over centuries.

The city preserves its Javanese roots through the work of local artisans who practice traditional techniques in leather work and furniture making. This craft tradition remains visible in everyday life through small workshops scattered across different neighborhoods.

Visitors find basic services and facilities distributed across the three districts that support daily needs. The city is small enough to explore on foot, but also offers local transportation options for traveling between different neighborhoods.

The name comes from Javanese words: 'Maja' refers to bael fruit and 'Karta' means masterpiece, reflecting the area's agricultural heritage. This name meaning links two concepts that shaped the local economy and the city's identity for a long time.
