Dermo Temple

Dermo Temple is a stone structure in Sidoarjo featuring two entrances on its eastern and western sides with a distinctive gateway design called Garuda Padu Raksa. The site shows carefully worked stone elements throughout its layout.

The temple likely originated in the 14th century during the Majapahit period, though Dutch colonial reports first documented it in 1905. This gap between construction and early records shows how long the building went unrecorded.

The temple displays traditional Hindu architecture with design elements visitors can observe today, particularly in the carved decorations and dual entrances. These features reflect religious practices that have taken place here across centuries.

The site underwent comprehensive restoration in 2020 and opened for public visits after temporary supports were removed. Check current access rules before visiting, as the site remains under supervision from the East Java Conservation Board.

The site borders Terung to its north, a former port along the Bengawan Brantas River that once served as a major crossing point. This location hints that the temple was once an important religious site for trade routes.
