Arca Joko dolog, Buddhist statue in Taman Apsari, Surabaya, Indonesia.
Arca Joko dolog is a stone figure shown in a seated meditation pose, located in the Taman Apsari park in Surabaya. The statue displays careful carving work and holds inscriptions on its base.
The statue was created in 1289 and is believed to depict King Kertanegara of Singhasari. It was discovered in the village of Kandang Gajah near Trowulan and later moved to Surabaya.
The base features the Wurare inscription with 19 Sanskrit verses that tell the story of how Java was divided into the regions of Janggala and Panjalu. These words recorded a key moment in how the land was governed.
The statue sits in a public park with free entry and is surrounded by information panels explaining its background. Visitors can view the inscriptions and carving details up close.
In 1817 Dutch authorities tried to ship the statue to Leiden but ran out of space on their vessel. Instead it remained in the region and eventually became an important local monument.
