Jombang, Administrative regency in East Java, Indonesia
Jombang is an administrative regency in the eastern part of Java, located southwest of Surabaya, covering diverse landscapes. In the north limestone hills rise, while the south is characterized by agricultural plains.
The administrative unit was established in 1910 and later gained national recognition as the birthplace of Abdurrahman Wahid. He later became the fourth president of the country.
The many Islamic boarding schools have made this area a recognized center of learning for decades. Thousands of young people from different regions come here to experience traditional teaching methods.
