Losari Beach, Coastal promenade in Makassar, Indonesia
Losari Beach is a coastal promenade on the western side of Makassar with walkways, seating areas and open platforms overlooking the Makassar Strait. Pavilions and covered sections stand along the length of the waterfront.
The waterfront served as a fish market and trading port until Mayor DM van Switten initiated plans to convert it into a public space after 1945. The promenade developed into a leisure area for residents and visitors over the following decades.
Food vendors line the waterfront in the evening, offering local dishes such as pisang epe, grilled fish and snacks from mobile carts. Families gather on the steps near the water or meet in the pavilions that fill up as the sun sets.
Access is possible at any time of day, though most visitors arrive in the late afternoon and stay through the evening. Parking areas are located near the main entrances along the street.
Sunsets over the water draw photographers and walkers to the steps and viewing platforms each evening. The platforms offer unobstructed views of the horizon with no barriers between viewer and sea.
