Bunurong Marine National Park, Marine national park near Cape Paterson, Australia
The marine park encompasses 2,046 hectares of coastal waters with intertidal sandstone platforms, underwater reefs, and subtidal rocky formations along the Bass Strait coastline.
The first dinosaur bone in Australia, known as the Cape Paterson Claw, was discovered at Eagles Nest beach within the park boundaries in 1903.
The name derives from the Bunurong Aboriginal people, whose Boakoolawal and Yowenjerre clans lived along this coastline and left evidence through numerous shell middens.
The park offers multiple entry points for visitors, with Cape Paterson caravan park providing convenient access to swimming areas and modified rockpool facilities.
The waters contain beds of Rhodoliths, ancient pink calcareous nodules of coralline red algae that form unattached structures on the seabed.
