Cygnet is the administrative center of Huon Valley, a small town located southwest of Hobart in southern Tasmania. It features two pubs, shops, cafes, restaurants, and medical services clustered around its central area.
The bay was named Port des Cygnes in 1793 by French navigator Bruni D'Entrecasteaux after he spotted numerous black swans in the waters. The town went through two name changes during the 1890s and early 1900s before settling on its current identity.
The Cygnet Town Hall, constructed in 1913, hosts markets, festivals, exhibitions, plays, concerts, classes, and community gatherings throughout the year.
