Federation Peak, Mountain summit in Southwest National Park, Tasmania
Federation Peak rises 1,224 meters above sea level, featuring steep cliffs and sharp ridges within the Eastern Arthur Range of Southwest Tasmania.
The peak remained unconquered until January 27, 1949, when the Geelong College Exploration Society successfully reached its summit after numerous attempts.
The mountain received its name in 1901 by Thomas Bather Moore to commemorate the Federation of Australia, replacing its earlier designation as The Obelisk.
The journey to Federation Peak requires a three to seven-day trek through dense forests and river crossings, with routes starting from Geeveston or Scotts Peak.
Lake Geeves lies 600 meters below the summit, creating a vertical drop that demands technical climbing skills to navigate the final ascent.
