Mount Anne

Mount Anne is a mountain summit in Southwest National Park featuring steep dolerite cliffs and rocky ridgelines that cross the Tasmanian wilderness. The route follows exposed ridges and passes over open plateaus with scattered rock outcrops and alpine vegetation.

The mountain gained protection as part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area in 1982, receiving international recognition for its geological value. This designation safeguarded its rock formations and natural environment from future development.

Local hiking communities maintain traditions of completing the Mount Anne Circuit, passing knowledge about navigation and safety through generations.

Climbing to the summit requires advanced skills and proper gear, with the route typically taking three days to complete. Visitors should prepare for changeable weather and harsh conditions at altitude.

A basic shelter hut on the route can accommodate several hikers for overnight stays during the trek. On clear days, those who reach the high points can look out across surrounding plateaus toward nearby Lake Pedder.
