Dry Creek explosives depot, Industrial heritage building in Dry Creek, South Australia.
The depot contains ten magazines with insulated walls and ventilation shafts, constructed to store explosives for mining and construction industries.
The South Australian Government's Department of Chemistry initiated construction in 1906, replacing the North Arm Powder Magazine at a cost of £6,000.
The facility represents early 20th-century industrial engineering practices through its specialized design for explosive material storage and transportation systems.
Each magazine building could store up to 40 tons of explosives, with protective mounds placed between structures to contain potential explosions.
The depot operated a narrow gauge tramway with six custom-built wagons, connecting the magazines to both the landing jetty and railway station.
