Little River

Little River is an administrative division within the City of Wyndham, located approximately 44 kilometers southwest of Melbourne. The area includes residential neighborhoods, educational facilities, a post office, and various local services for residents.

The area developed in 1840 when the first inn was built at a crossing point along the main road, serving travelers moving between towns. This initial settlement grew because of its position on an important trade route.

The place takes its name from the waterway flowing through it and served as a stopping point for travelers between two major cities. Local buildings and stories still reflect the role it played in connecting communities across the region.

The area sits along a major road connection and is easily accessible from Melbourne. It has good local facilities including schools, shops, and a health center for visitors and residents.

Scottish Gaelic-speaking immigrants arrived in 1852 and settled permanently in the region. They had fled famine and forced removal from their homeland, shaping the area's early population.
