Werribee Park, Heritage estate in Werribee, Australia.
Werribee Park is a heritage estate in the City of Wyndham with a 19th-century manor house, formal gardens, an artificial grotto, and an ornamental lake. The site spreads over open lawns with mature trees, geometrically arranged beds, and pathways that link different sections together.
The mansion was built between 1874 and 1877 for brothers Thomas and Andrew Chirnside, who ran a large sheep farming operation here. The estate remained with the family until the mid-20th century before passing to the state and opening as a public park.
The rose garden holds thousands of roses in different colors and forms that shape the grounds during the blooming season from October to April. Visitors often come here to walk among the beds and enjoy the scents that drift across the paths.
The grounds include barbecue facilities and a cafe, and there is parking near the entrance. Wide paths run through the gardens and are accessible by wheelchair, making most areas reachable for visitors.
The old orchard dates from the 1870s and still holds apple, pear, and quince varieties that survived from the time of the founding family. A community program maintains these trees and preserves the historical varieties so that visitors can see how fruit was once grown here.
