John Medley Building, Brutalist academic building at University of Melbourne, Australia.
The John Medley Building features two six-story towers connected by an elevated walkway, constructed with concrete and light-brown brick materials.
Erected between 1969 and 1971, the structure was named after Sir John Medley, who served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne from 1938 to 1951.
The building represents a major architectural shift at the University of Melbourne, combining elements of Bauhaus style with Italian neo-liberty movement influences.
The fifth-floor Common Room links the east and west towers while providing extensive views across Melbourne and the university grounds.
Current plans indicate the building's scheduled demolition by 2040 to create additional open spaces within the university campus.
