Albert Park Circuit, Formula One racing circuit in Albert Park, Australia
Albert Park Circuit is a 5,278-meter (about 3.3 miles) course around a lake in Melbourne that combines public roads with permanent racing facilities. The track links fast straights with 14 corners and runs through parkland with lake views.
The park hosted races in the 1950s before going three decades without motorsport activity. The course was reopened in 1996 and attracted international series.
Motorsport fans gather on stands and grassy areas around the track, which turns into an open-air venue during race weekends. The atmosphere blends festival and racing with food stalls, pit lane walks and concerts after the sessions.
The course is closed during racing, but outside those periods the roads are open to regular traffic. It is best explored on foot or by bike when no events are scheduled.
Construction work in recent years widened seven corners and changed their angles, creating new overtaking opportunities. The longest straight also emerged from these changes.
