Melbourne High School, Selective state secondary school in South Yarra, Victoria, Australia
Melbourne High School is a boys' secondary school for Years 9 through 12 in South Yarra, Victoria. The campus combines the heritage-listed Twenties Building, nicknamed the Castle on the Hill, with newer structures for science and sport.
The school opened in 1905 as the first state co-educational secondary institution in Victoria. It relocated to South Yarra in 1927 and began admitting only boys.
The four school houses carry names tied to Victorian places and figures: Como, Forrest, Yarra and Waterloo. Competition among them unfolds through swimming meets, athletic days and choral performances throughout the school year.
Admission happens through a selective entry exam for Year 9 students testing academic ability and suitability. The campus sits on elevated ground and is accessible through several roads and footpaths from nearby areas.
The school shares programs and events with Mac.Robertson Girls' High School, a collaboration dating back decades. Joint concerts and educational projects regularly bring together students from both institutions.
