Brooke Street Pier, Ferry terminal structure at Sullivans Cove, Hobart, Australia.
Brooke Street Pier is a floating building at Sullivans Cove in Hobart, Australia, rising four levels and wrapped in semi-translucent polycarbonate panels. It serves as a ferry terminal, event space, and market area all in one structure on the water.
The pier was completed in 2015 and was at that time the largest floating building in Australia. It was part of a broader effort to redevelop Hobart's waterfront area around Sullivans Cove.
Markets are held regularly at the pier, where local producers sell Tasmanian goods such as fresh fish, cheese, and wine. Visitors can buy directly from the producers while looking out over the cove.
The building sits directly on the waterfront promenade and is easy to reach on foot from central Hobart. It has multiple entrances and is accessible throughout, so getting between the different levels is straightforward for all visitors.
The building uses the temperature of seawater to help control its indoor climate, reducing the need for conventional heating or cooling systems. It also has genderless bathrooms, which is unusual for a public transport facility of this kind.
