Barnbougle Dunes, Links-style golf course in Bridport, Tasmania, Australia
Barnbougle Dunes is an 18-hole golf course on the northeastern coast of Tasmania, near Bridport. The holes run across natural sand dunes and through existing coastal vegetation, following the land as it was found rather than reshaping it.
The land was a coastal potato farm before the course was built, and the transformation began in the early 2000s. A team of golf architects worked with local partners to design the layout, which opened in 2004.
Barnbougle Dunes is known for keeping the natural feel of the Tasmanian coast at the center of the playing experience. Golfers from many countries come here, and the round takes place in a quiet that is hard to find on city courses.
The course is about a 2-hour drive from Launceston, and an airport shuttle is available for visitors. Accommodation on site means you can stay for several days without needing to travel back and forth.
Barnbougle Dunes was the first Australian newcomer to enter the world top 35 rankings since those lists began. A second course, known as Lost Farm, was later built on the same property and sits just next to the original layout.
