Murrumbidgee Valley National Park

Murrumbidgee Valley National Park is a protected reserve along the Murrumbidgee River in the Riverina region. The landscape features river red gum forests, wetland areas, grassland zones, and sandy banks where the water meets the land.

The protected area was established in 2010 to safeguard the forests from logging and agricultural expansion. This decision recognized the need to keep these forest zones secure for the long term.

This protected area is part of a connected system of river reserves that stretches across the Riverina region and links several natural zones together. The Murrumbidgee River valley has held cultural and economic importance for local communities over generations.

The park has several camping areas including Wooloondool, Bunyip Hole, and Narrandera with good visitor facilities. Fishing, kayaking, swimming, cycling, and hiking are all possible activities throughout the reserve.

The park protects sections of the world's longest continuous forest of this eucalyptus type. These woodlands provide critical habitat for koalas and many bird species that depend on them.
