Iona Church, Heritage church building in Port Chalmers, New Zealand.
The Gothic Revival structure features carefully crafted stained glass windows and stands amid green surroundings in the maritime district of Dunedin City.
The foundation stone of Iona Church was laid in 1871, and an additional gallery was constructed between 1882 and 1883 to accommodate the growing congregation.
The church maintains its role as a religious center while hosting concerts and special events during the summer cruise ship season in Port Chalmers.
Interior tours of Iona Church are currently restricted to cruise ship days due to ongoing earthquake-proofing renovations managed by Mason and Wales architects.
Heritage New Zealand granted Category I status to this stone edifice in 1994, recognizing its architectural and historical value to the Port Chalmers community.
