Gibbs Farm, Outdoor sculpture park at Kaipara Harbour, New Zealand
Gibbs Farm is a sculpture garden in the Auckland Region, spread across 400 hectares of rolling farmland overlooking Kaipara Harbour. Numerous large outdoor artworks occupy hillsides, valleys and ridges, with views across pasture and water.
Alan Gibbs began inviting international artists in 1991 to create permanent installations across his farmland. Since then, more than two dozen works have been commissioned, each designed for the site.
The collection includes pieces by Richard Serra, Anish Kapoor and Neil Dawson, who each designed works that respond to the surrounding terrain and light conditions. Visitors walk between these installations and see how steel, stone and other materials interact with the open grassland.
Access requires a reservation in advance through the official website, with openings usually scheduled once per month for the public. Visits take place in small groups and include guided tours across the extensive grounds.
Exotic animals such as giraffes and emus roam the grounds alongside the sculptures, visible during walks between the installations. A full-scale replica Wild West town named Grief also exists in a restricted section of the property.
