Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Art museum in Auckland, New Zealand

The Auckland Art Gallery features an extensive collection of 15,000 artworks housed in a building combining French Renaissance and modern architectural elements.

Governor George Grey established the Auckland Art Gallery in 1887, making it the first permanent art gallery in New Zealand with public access.

The gallery exhibits numerous portraits of Maori dignitaries painted by Charles Frederick Goldie, representing the indigenous heritage of New Zealand.

The gallery welcomes visitors from Saturday through Thursday between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with extended hours until 9:00 PM on Fridays.

The 2011 renovation added kauri wood canopies to the building exterior, incorporating natural materials significant to New Zealand's architectural identity.
