Green Hill, Volcanic cone in East Tāmaki, New Zealand.
Green Hill rises 78 meters above sea level with a scoria cone formation, standing 48 meters higher than the surrounding landscape.
The Styak family named this hill after their Northern Ireland homeland, transforming it from its original Māori name Mātanginui to Green Hill.
The hill holds deep connections to Ngāi Tai iwi, who maintained a defensive pā at its summit and cultivated stonefield gardens in the area.
The location underwent extensive restoration between 2006 and 2016, reshaping the terrain to recreate its natural hill formation after decades of quarrying.
This volcanic structure generated enough methane gas from its former landfill operations to power a gas plant starting in 1992.
