Sydney Cricket Ground, Sports stadium in Moore Park, Sydney, Australia
The Sydney Cricket Ground is a stadium in the Moore Park neighborhood of Sydney used for cricket, rugby and football matches. The playing field measures 156 by 154 meters and is surrounded by stands that together hold 43,649 spectators.
The ground opened in 1851 as the Garrison Ground and first served British military units as a drill and recreation area. Over time, the site evolved into a central venue for national sporting competitions across Australia.
Many spectators wear pink clothing during the January test match to support cancer charities through visible public participation. Crowds sing and cheer throughout each game, creating a shared sound that defines the rhythm of play for summer cricket in Sydney.
The stadium sits near a train station and is easy to reach by public transport from the city center. Multiple entrances lead to different sections, and display boards show scores clearly throughout the spectator areas.
From the 1890s through the 1920s, a bicycle track ran around the entire playing field and allowed parallel cycling events. The track later disappeared when the stadium focused solely on cricket and rugby.
