John Bridge Woolstore, Heritage warehouse in Sydney Central Business District, Australia
The John Bridge Woolstore sits on Harbour Street and features a Victorian design with clean geometric facades facing the street and harbor. The building still retains original cast-iron elements that are especially visible on the ground floor.
The woolstore was completed in 1889 and originally served John Bridge & Co as a storage facility. After 1914, the Postmaster-General's Department took over the building and used it as a branch for government supplies.
The place tells the story of Sydney as a trading port and industrial hub during the 1800s. Its original purpose as a wool storage facility is still visible in how the space is designed and used today.
The building is now part of a hotel and can be viewed from outside, with the facade clearly visible from the street. It sits centrally near transportation hubs, making it easy to reach and combine with other city attractions.
The outer walls use building techniques from the 1800s where the ground floor was made especially thick to support the weight of the upper stories. This strong construction is why the building has survived to this day.
