Steel Point Battery, Coastal artillery site in Vaucluse, Australia.
Steel Point Battery incorporates three sandstone gun emplacements connected by underground chambers on the shores of Port Jackson in eastern Sydney.
The battery construction began in 1871 and reached completion in 1874, equipped with two 68-pounder guns later upgraded to three 80-pounder rifled muzzle-loading weapons.
The fortification represents nineteenth-century Australian military engineering and stands as evidence of colonial defense strategies against potential naval threats.
The site remains partially accessible to visitors, with one gun emplacement visible, while a section serves as a Royal Australian Navy degaussing station.
The battery features protective domed metal shields over each gun pit, designed to defend the artillery positions from incoming enemy fire.
