Nutcote, Historic house museum in Neutral Bay, Sydney, Australia.
Nutcote is a Mediterranean-style residence in Neutral Bay with a studio featuring large windows overlooking Sydney Harbour. The property sits within gardens planted with native Australian vegetation and was completed in 1924.
Architect B.J. Waterhouse designed the residence in 1924 for children's author May Gibbs, who occupied it starting in 1925. She continued living here until relocating in 1969.
The house displays original artworks and personal belongings of May Gibbs, the creator of the Gumnut Babies series and Bib and Bub comics. Visitors can explore the creative world of this beloved children's author through the objects she left behind.
The museum is open from Wednesday through Sunday and located in a residential neighborhood with good walkability. Both the garden and studio are accessible to visitors, allowing you to see where the artist worked.
The studio still contains the original drafting table where May Gibbs created her illustrations for more than 40 years. The table faces directly toward the harbor, providing her with a constant view while she worked.
