Torin Building, Modernist industrial building in Penrith, New South Wales, Australia.
The Torin Building is an industrial structure in Penrith with a cubic form made from rough concrete blocks and precast concrete elements for sun control. The complex includes a high-rise storage tower connected to a two-floor section containing manufacturing, assembly, and office areas.
Marcel Breuer designed this factory in 1976 for the Torin Corporation, which manufactured air moving equipment and marked his final industrial project in Australia. The collaboration with architect Harry Seidler and landscape architect Bruce Rickard shaped the building's final design.
The building displays modernist design principles through its bold concrete forms and geometric surfaces, creating a workspace that feels organized and purposeful.
The building is accessible from outside and offers good views of the modernist architecture and concrete facade. The site allows visitors to grasp the industrial scale and geometric design from different angles.
This is Marcel Breuer's only building project in Australia, making it a rare example of the renowned Bauhaus designer's work outside his main centers. The partnership between the legendary modernist and local Australian architects represents an unusual cross-cultural dialogue in architectural practice.
