Richmond Vale Railway Museum

Richmond Vale Railway Museum is a railway museum in the Kurri Kurri area set on a former colliery site and displays historic steam locomotives, mining equipment, and railway artifacts. The property encompasses multiple exhibition areas with vehicles and objects spanning different decades of the region's rail and mining history.

The museum was established in 1979 to preserve the Richmond Vale railway line and the mining heritage of the former Richmond Main Colliery. It documents the rail and mining activity that shaped the Kurri Kurri area from the 19th century onward.

The locomotives on display once powered the mining and freight operations that shaped this region, offering visitors insight into how railways were woven into local life for generations. The equipment reflects the industries and work that defined the valley.

The site is open to visitors only on certain days, mainly on weekends with regular train rides between exhibition areas. Comfortable shoes are recommended as the grounds feature gravel and dirt paths, and sun protection is needed on clear days.

The museum suffered severe damage from a fire in 2017, but volunteers worked to restore key railway sections and resume train operations. This recovery effort demonstrated the deep connection the local community held with the site's history.
