Captain Thunderbolt's Grave, Heritage burial site in Uralla, Australia

Captain Thunderbolt's Grave is a marble headstone located within a white picket fence at the southern edge of Uralla Pioneer Cemetery on John Street. The burial site stands as a documented heritage location marking the resting place of Frederick Wordsworth Ward.

Frederick Wordsworth Ward, known as Captain Thunderbolt, was shot by police constable Alexander Walker at Kentucky Creek near Uralla in 1870. His legend as one of the final bushrangers of New South Wales became part of the region's story.

Local residents erected the marble headstone in 1914 to honor the final resting place of one of New South Wales' last outlaws. The grave reflects how the community chose to remember this controversial figure and his role in the region's past.

The cemetery offers free access to visitors and provides parking facilities nearby. The grave is easy to locate thanks to signage on the grounds, making it simple to spend time at this heritage site.

Uncertainty surrounds whether the grave actually contains remains, since the body lay unburied for several days after death. This mystery has intrigued visitors and researchers for generations.
