Wauchope, Administrative division in Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Australia
Wauchope is an administrative division on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, situated approximately 19 kilometers west of Port Macquarie. It lies along the Hastings River and forms part of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council area.
The area was established in 1836 when Captain Robert Andrew Wauch acquired 760 acres of land near King Creek, giving the locality its name. This early settlement became a center for timber production that shaped the region's economy for generations.
The area is home to Timbertown, a heritage park where visitors can explore how logging shaped local life through working demonstrations and period exhibits. The park reflects the importance of the timber industry in the region's identity and economy.
The North Coast railway line runs through the area and connects Wauchope station to Sydney and other regional centers. This makes it convenient for visitors traveling between the coast and inland areas.
A major flood occurred in January 1968 when water levels rose significantly above normal, marking a rare event in the region's record. This flood left a lasting impression on local memory and infrastructure.
