Yimbun Railway Tunnel, Railway tunnel in Harlin, Queensland, Australia.
The Yimbun Railway Tunnel is a concrete-lined passage that runs for about 100 meters beneath the land near Harlin in Queensland. Semi-elliptical openings frame each end, with the date 1910 carved into the stone at both portals.
Built between 1909 and 1910, this tunnel formed part of the Brisbane Valley Branch Rail Line created to link the South Burnett region with Brisbane. The railway remained operational for over eighty years before closing in 1993.
This tunnel stands as evidence of early twentieth-century railway engineering methods, displaying the technical capabilities of Queensland Railways during infrastructure expansion.
The tunnel sits along Sinnamons Lane, roughly 96 kilometers from Wulkuraka, and remains accessible from the road. Despite decades of railway closure, the structure has held firm and can be examined by visitors interested in railway heritage.
This remains the only tunnel ever constructed along the entire Brisbane Valley Branch Rail Line, a striking fact given the otherwise surface-level route. It was positioned directly beneath a natural saddle between two hills, solving a geographical obstacle that would have required a lengthy detour.
