Old Bishopsbourne, Historic religious residence in Milton, Australia.
Old Bishopsbourne is a two-story residence built from local porphyry and sandstone, featuring Gothic stone arches and broad verandahs along Milton Road. The building has housed St Francis Theological College since 1936, with classrooms, student quarters, and a library added in 1959.
The residence was built between 1865 and 1868 as the home of Edward Tufnell, the first Anglican Bishop of Brisbane. It served as the residence for successive Anglican leaders until 1964, when it transitioned to educational use.
The Chapel of the Holy Spirit, added in 1912, displays Australian flora designs in its sanctuary woodwork and continues to host regular Anglican services for theology students.
The site is located on Milton Road in Milton and features classrooms, dormitories, and a library that visitors can explore. The Gothic architecture and expansive verandah areas are visible from outside and offer views of the building's original design.
The property retains original 1870s garden plantings, including Hoop and Bunya pines, along with remnants of native eucalyptus woodland dating to the building's construction period. These surviving plants form a living link to the site's early history and the surrounding Australian landscape.
