Old Rainworth Stone Store

The Old Rainworth Stone Store is a storage building made from basalt stone blocks with very thick walls that made the structure durable and resistant. The building contains several rooms, including a main room, a cellar, and a loft for various storage purposes.

The building was built in 1862 by George Goldring for Jesse Gregson and served as a supply point in a remote location. It played an important role during a time when early European settlers needed to protect their possessions and food.

The building shows how settlers stored and protected their food in remote Australian regions. The solid stone construction reflects the practical needs of life in the wilderness.

The building is located south of Springsure and is accessible by road. The best time to visit is during the dry summer months, when the roads are easy to travel.

The building was not only a storehouse but also served as a refuge for settlers during dangerous times. The thick stone walls provided protection that went beyond simple storage.
