Mount Morgan Mine

Mount Morgan Mine is a historic copper and gold mine in central Queensland with excavation structures, processing facilities, and administrative buildings spread across a large industrial complex. The site today still shows visible shafts, metal-processing rooms, and the former office building that reveal how the mining operation was organized.

The mine began producing in 1882 and remained one of Australia's most important resource sources for over a century. Operations ended in 1981, leaving behind a legacy that shaped the country's economic development.

Wealth from this mine funded the creation of two major organizations: the oil company BP and a leading medical research institute. Few visitors realize this connection between mining operations and groundbreaking investments elsewhere.
