Rockhampton Botanic Gardens, Heritage-listed botanical garden in Rockhampton, Australia
The Rockhampton Botanic Gardens span 33 hectares between Murray and Yeppen-Yeppen lagoons, featuring tropical plants, palms, cycads, and Australian native species.
James Scott Edgar, trained at Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, developed the first ten acres of the gardens from 1873, establishing the foundation of current lower gardens.
The Japanese Gardens, designed by landscape designer Kenzo Ogata, represent a post-World War II Treaty of Friendship through ornamental bridges and bonsai displays.
Visitors access the gardens free of charge, with parking spaces for cars, buses, and bicycles, plus wheelchair-accessible paths throughout the main sections.
The gardens retain a 150-year-old canopy of Banyan figs and an avenue of Bunya pines from their initial purpose as a plant trial facility.
