St Josephs Cathedral, Rockhampton, Gothic Revival cathedral in Allenstown, Rockhampton, Australia.

St. Joseph's Cathedral is a Gothic Revival structure in Allenstown featuring pointed arches, Italian marble floors, and intricate stained glass windows depicting scenes from the Gospel of John. The windows were crafted by the renowned English firm John Hardman and Son, which became known for their ecclesiastical works.

Construction began in 1894 under Bishop Cani's leadership, with the foundation stone laid in 1895 and the building officially opening in October 1899. This project came after the first Catholic service was held in the town in 1862.

The cathedral serves as the principal place of worship for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton, anchoring the spiritual life of the local community. Its presence reflects the religious journey that brought Catholics to this part of Queensland.

The building is located on William Street and welcomes visitors through organized tours of the heritage-listed structure. These tours provide detailed access to explore the architectural features and interior appointments.

The sandstone blocks used in construction came from Stanwell Quarry, which Bishop Cani personally owned during the building period. This connection between the building material and the church leader reveals the deeply personal nature of the project.
