The foundation stone for St Marks Church was placed by Mrs. Dawes, wife of the first Bishop of Rockhampton Diocese, on October 14, 1900.
The internal configuration maintains original elements including the Rood-screen across the chancel, demonstrating Anglican worship practices from the Oxford Movement period.
The church stands at 36 Larnach Street, providing religious services and community gatherings for the Anglican congregation of southern Rockhampton.
This timber Gothic-style church contains one of the few remaining Rood-screens in the Diocese of Rockhampton, installed during the 1920s.
