The Queensland National Hotel features a two-story timber structure with a prominent tower that offers views across Mount Morgan town.
Architect John William Wilson, who designed over 200 buildings in Rockhampton, created this hotel in 1890 during the Mount Morgan gold mining boom.
The hotel served as a central meeting point between the Post Office and Queensland National Bank, providing accommodation and social spaces for travelers.
The observation tower of the building provided strategic value during World War II as a 24-hour watch point for the Mount Morgan Volunteer Air Observer Corps.
The hotel's architect, John William Wilson, participated in the Eureka Stockade rebellion and reportedly designed the Eureka flag in Ballarat.
