Friend Park, Barney Point, Heritage park in Barney Point, Australia.
Friend Park is a heritage park occupying a low promontory at the southern end of Barney Point Beach with views across Port Curtis harbor. The grounds feature open lawns, children's play areas, walking paths, and memorial structures spread throughout the property.
The site served as the Port Curtis Government Residence from 1854 to 1856 under Captain Maurice Charles O'Connell's administration. It was later transformed into a public park after the government operations relocated elsewhere.
The park takes its name from Henry Friend Junior, who donated the land to Gladstone in 1929. Since then, it has served as a gathering place where the community comes together for shared moments.
The park is easily accessible on foot with multiple entry points from the beach and surrounding streets. Visitors will find seating and rest areas near various memorials distributed throughout the grounds.
A stone sarcophagus with inscriptions marks the grave of Thomas Milles Stratford Riddell within the park grounds. This memorial connects visitors to an important historical figure linked to the area's past.
