Radar Station, Charlie's Hill, Military radar station in Inkerman, Australia.
Radar Station, Charlie's Hill was a strategic lookout post featuring two reinforced concrete bunkers and tower foundations on elevated terrain. The site was positioned to monitor Queensland's entire coastline from its hilltop location.
The Royal Australian Air Force built Radar Station No 211 in 1943 to detect potential Japanese aircraft during World War II. It formed part of a broader coastal defense strategy against the threat of air attacks.
The station's personnel included Royal Australian Air Force members and Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force staff who worked in three rotating daily shifts. These teams maintained continuous watch over the Queensland coastline throughout the war.
The site is reached via Bruce Highway and Charlie's Hill Road, followed by an unsealed track to the hilltop. Visitors should expect uneven ground and wear appropriate footwear.
The station operated one of only two fixed long-range radar installations in Queensland, using specialized British Advanced Chain Overseas equipment. This technology was state-of-the-art for air surveillance at the time.
