Néporo

Néporo is a summit on the western side of New Caledonia, rising 205 meters above sea level in an area rich with mineral resources. The slopes are covered with vegetation typical of this Pacific region.

The mountain formed during the separation of New Caledonia from the Australian landmass millions of years ago. Its geological history reflects the dynamic forces that shaped the Pacific island world.

The summit sits on land traditionally inhabited by the Kanak people, who have maintained their connection to these highlands through generations of knowledge and practices. You can sense this deep relationship with the land as you walk through the terrain.

Multiple trails lead to the summit and offer views across the surrounding landscape. You should wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water, especially during the warmer hours of the day.

The summit contains traces of nickel ore, reflecting New Caledonia's position as one of the world's largest nickel reserves. These mineral deposits have deeply influenced the economic and landscape development of the island.
