Niumalu Beach Park

Niumalu Beach Park stretches across roughly 14 acres on the southeast coast of Kauai and offers a sandy shoreline with clear water for swimming and paddling. The facility includes more than 50 camping sites, a boat ramp, pavilions, a playground, restrooms, and numerous picnic tables for public use.

The area was once home to Paul Kanoa and his son Paul P. Kanoa, both of whom served as Royal Governors of Kauai. Their presence shaped the history of this coastal region and its connection to local leadership.

The park sits near the Menehune Fish Pond, an archaeological site showing how ancient Hawaiians engineered and managed fishponds for food production. The structure remains visible today and reflects traditional knowledge passed down through generations.

The park works well for camping, swimming, and water sports in the sheltered bay waters. Visitors should plan for breezy conditions and consider arriving in early morning or late afternoon hours when weather is more stable.

The park sits directly adjacent to the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge, where rare Hawaiian waterbirds can be spotted. This immediate proximity to a protected reserve makes visits especially rewarding for nature watchers.
