Nevado de Colima National Park

Nevado de Colima National Park is a protected area straddling Jalisco and Colima states and encompasses the Colima Volcanic Complex featuring two major peaks. The landscape includes marked trails that pass through various elevation zones, each with distinct vegetation and climate conditions.

The park was established in 1936 under President Lázaro Cárdenas to protect the volcanic landscape and surrounding natural habitats. This founding reflected a national effort to preserve important mountain regions across Mexico.

The park functions as a learning space where visitors can discover environmental conservation practices at the La Joya facility. Schools and families come here to understand how the volcanic landscape and mountain ecosystems are protected and managed.

The park offers hiking, camping, and cycling opportunities on marked trails that traverse multiple elevation zones. Trail difficulty varies, so it's helpful to plan your route based on your fitness level and available time.

The park harbors exceptional biological diversity with more than 940 documented plant and animal species across its zones. This richness of life stems from the distinct climate conditions that develop at different elevations throughout the landscape.
